Pablo Jurado Ruiz is a Spanish visual artist born in Málaga in 1973 and currently based in Madrid. Working primarily with black ink and a meticulous stippling technique, he constructs his images dot by dot, allowing light, shadow and form to emerge gradually from thousands of individual marks. The precision of the process contrasts with the emotional ambiguity of the images, creating works that invite both close observation and personal interpretation.

At the centre of Jurado's practice is the human figure. His work explores identity, memory, vulnerability, displacement and the complexity of human emotions, often through portraits and metaphorical scenes in which a gaze, a gesture or a seemingly ordinary moment suggests a larger, untold story.

Rather than describing his subjects, Jurado uses them as a means of exploring states of being and universal human experiences. Childhood, the transition into adulthood, the search for belonging, the boundaries imposed on the individual and the tension between vulnerability and resilience recur throughout his work. Series such as Nomads, Belongings, Restraints and I, Refugee reflect these concerns, while leaving space for viewers to construct their own narratives and emotional connections.

His visual language has evolved through a long exploration of drawing, painting and photography. His experience with black-and-white photography eventually brought him back to paper and ink, where he found in stippling a particularly powerful means of expression. The accumulation and absence of dots become not only a technique, but also a way of constructing and dissolving the image—of revealing some things while leaving others unresolved.

Born on the Mediterranean coast of southern Spain, Jurado's artistic development has also been shaped by periods living in Alaska and Manchester before settling in Madrid. These experiences broadened his visual perspective and contributed to the recurring notions of movement, identity and belonging that continue to appear throughout his work.

His work has been exhibited internationally, developing a particularly significant relationship with South Korea. It has been presented in major museum exhibitions at the Daejeon Museum of Art, Suwon I Park Museum of Art and Clayarch Gimhae Museum of Art. In 2026, a decade after his first museum exhibitions in Korea, his work returned to the country as part of The Most Perfect Illusion at the Ulsan Museum of Art, renewing a long-standing connection with Korean institutions and audiences.

His international trajectory also includes exhibitions and art fairs in South Korea, China, France, the United Kingdom and Spain, and his work has appeared in publications and projects by Oxford University Press and Entertainment Weekly. His works are held in private collections in Europe and Asia.

Jurado holds a Bachelor's Degree in Design, complementing an artistic career shaped by a continuous exploration of image, composition and visual communication.

Pablo Jurado Ruiz es un artista visual español nacido en Málaga en 1973 y residente actualmente en Madrid. Trabaja principalmente con tinta negra mediante una minuciosa técnica de puntillismo, construyendo sus imágenes punto a punto y permitiendo que la luz, la sombra y la forma emerjan gradualmente a partir de miles de pequeñas marcas individuales. La precisión del proceso contrasta con la ambigüedad emocional de las imágenes, dando lugar a obras que invitan tanto a una observación detenida como a una interpretación personal.

En el centro de la práctica artística de Jurado se encuentra la figura humana. Su obra explora la identidad, la memoria, la vulnerabilidad, el desarraigo y la complejidad de las emociones humanas, a menudo a través de retratos y escenas metafóricas en las que una mirada, un gesto o un momento aparentemente cotidiano sugieren una historia más amplia que permanece sin contar.

Más que describir a sus protagonistas, Jurado los utiliza como un medio para explorar estados del ser y experiencias humanas universales. La infancia, la transición hacia la edad adulta, la búsqueda de pertenencia, los límites impuestos al individuo y la tensión entre vulnerabilidad y resiliencia aparecen de forma recurrente en su obra. Series como Nomads, Belongings, Restraints e I, Refugee reflejan estas inquietudes, dejando al mismo tiempo espacio para que el espectador construya sus propias narrativas y conexiones emocionales.

Su lenguaje visual ha evolucionado a través de una larga exploración del dibujo, la pintura y la fotografía. Su experiencia con la fotografía en blanco y negro acabó conduciéndolo de nuevo al papel y la tinta, donde encontró en el puntillismo un medio de expresión especialmente poderoso. La acumulación y la ausencia de puntos se convierten no solo en una técnica, sino también en una forma de construir y disolver la imagen, de revelar ciertas cosas mientras otras permanecen sin resolver.

Nacido en la costa mediterránea del sur de España, el desarrollo artístico de Jurado también se ha visto marcado por etapas de su vida en Alaska y Manchester, antes de establecerse en Madrid. Estas experiencias ampliaron su perspectiva visual y contribuyeron a las ideas recurrentes de movimiento, identidad y pertenencia que continúan presentes a lo largo de su obra.

Su trabajo ha sido expuesto internacionalmente, desarrollando una relación especialmente significativa con Corea del Sur. Su obra ha formado parte de importantes exposiciones museísticas en el Daejeon Museum of Art, el Suwon I Park Museum of Art y el Clayarch Gimhae Museum of Art. En 2026, una década después de sus primeras exposiciones en museos coreanos, su obra regresó al país como parte de The Most Perfect Illusion en el Ulsan Museum of Art, renovando así una relación de largo recorrido con las instituciones y el público de Corea del Sur.

Su trayectoria internacional incluye también exposiciones y ferias de arte en Corea del Sur, China, Francia, Reino Unido y España, y su trabajo ha aparecido en publicaciones y proyectos de Oxford University Press y Entertainment Weekly. Sus obras forman parte de colecciones privadas en Europa y Asia.

Jurado es Graduado en Diseño (Bachelor's Degree in Design), una formación que complementa una trayectoria artística marcada por la exploración continua de la imagen, la composición y la comunicación visual.
